28 March 2012 | Amoryn Golden - Customers at the Weltevredenpark Spar on Monday morning, 26 March suddenly became the victims of an organised armed robbery.
The Honeydew SAPS, who attended the scene, allegedly found staff members and customers traumatised after they were held at gunpoint.
"On their arrival police were informed that approximately ten suspects forcefully entered the store with firearms, demanding money," communication officer at the Honeydew SAPS Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs reports.
According to Jacobs, the suspects emptied all the tills in the store, and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, cellphones, jewellery and a firearm.
They sped away in a dark blue Volkswagen Polo and a white Camry.
According to the store owner, Stelios Loannou, the suspects spent a mere two minutes and thirty five seconds in the store before police arrived on the scene.
"They arrived very quickly to protect us, and luckily nobody was harmed."
Although business will go on as usual, Loannou assures that staff members will still receive counselling.
