Hilda Fourie Beeld newspaper: April 8 2012 - Four black male attackers spent two hours torturing 82-year-old Jimmy Kruger and his son-in-law Leon Landman, 62 during an armed attack against their smallholding north of Pretoria. This is the second reported attack on the crime-ridden smallholdings this week. The men said they 'were grateful that they were allowed to live.'
The two Afrikaner men said they were watching TV at around 20h40 while the rest of the family was in Oudtshoorn at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees.
A bell attached to their security gate started tinkling and the dog Jackie started barking simultaneously. For some reason Kruger went outside in the dark and opened the security gate:
and one black male stormed into his room with a firearm pointing at him. Kruger said he struggled with the gunman.
"When I looked again three more stood there, pointing their weapons into my face. I am a 1930s model and I cannot fight against four of them'.Kruger was tied up and dragged to Landman's room - and for two hours the two Afrikaners were beaten, kicked in the face, and tortured. The Landman's Volkswagen Passat was loaded with their laptops, TVs, cameras, jewellery. After two hours the four men fled.
SAPS capt Jan Sepato said the vehicle was found abandoned in Mamelodi township nearby. The elderly Kruger was admitted to a local hospital for observation, because he was badly bruised and beaten up.
