Hatecrime attacks against two female Afrikaner residents in Swellendam, WC: young ballet-teacher raped; elderly woman escapes attacker inside her home; Two incidents of hatecrimes against Afrikaner women were recorded in Swellendam, in the Western Cape. On 12 June, Mrs Elsa Human, 66, was attacked by a young black male inside her Swellendam home; she managed to escape and cry for help and the knifeman ran away. A few months earlier, in the hall of the local Dutch Reformed Church, a young Afrikaner ballet-teacher was raped by a black male. The Swellendam police say they are still searching for both suspects. And, warns a relative and local resident: "this beautiful, historic Western Cape town is a popular tourist destination, especially for foreigners." Earlier, Mr and Mrs Nick and Elsie Els were also murdered on their smallholding outside Swellendam.
