Cape Town - The couple who were brutally murdered while camping in dunes in Mitchells Plain were apparently planning on getting married.
Christopher Van Rooi, 33, and Lee-Ann Ram, 31, loved coming to that particular spot in the dunes near the Strandfontein water treatment plant and often camped out at the place they thought of as their special spot, reported the Cape Argus.
They had gone camping as usual over the weekend but when they didn’t return, their families started looking for them. Their bodies were later found.
Rooi had been stabbed to death and Ram’s body was burnt beyond recognition.
“I thought they would bury me first, but now I will be burying my son,” said a grieving Christiaan Rooi, the dead man’s father.
The couple had been together for 10 years and had a 9-year-old daughter, Vania, who was staying with her grandparents over the weekend.
Police are investigating the murders.
