“On Sunday we received very sad news. Kathy Potgieter and her boyfriend went fishing at Bobby Hall's farm dam, somewhere Between Amatikulu and Nyoni. They were attacked by two violent robbers who hit Kevin (*Kevin Marallich, Capt. SAPS crime intelligence unit) on the back of the head with a rock. Then they shot him in the face with a very high caliber gun. He died. Kathy was also bashed about terribly and raped. And then thrown into the dam to drown. They stole the bakkie, cell phones , Kathy's bag and their picnic stuff. The Induna of the farm was walking by about 3 hours later and reported to Bobby Hall about his find. Two local farmers, one with lifeguard training went over to the dam and swam in and rescued Kathy who was floating on her back.
Not much chance of a recovery – critically ill:
•She was rushed to Umhlanga hospital and had surgery on her head to relieve the pressure and was also put onto a ventilator to get her breathing again. She is critically ill and there is not much promise of her recovery. She now has infection in the stomach and lungs And blood in the urine. If she does recover the doctors say that there is a possibility of brain damage. She is still unconscious

His son Adriaan also was shot in both legs and was tortured. Both Fischer men were rushed to a hospital in Louis Trichardt. An unnamed farmer from Brits arrested one of the farm-attackers during the search which followed, shooting the man in the chest and confiscating the weapon in his possession. This arrested gunman now is treated a hospital under police-guard, Willem Pelser of Rapport writes. He took the pictures and wrote the story.
Upon arrival at the homestead, the farm-watch members heard ‘blood-curdling screams’ coming from the farm-hopuse and realised that the old farmer was being tortured, said farmer Corné Nel – first on the scene together with farmer Gideon Joubert. . “The attackers were hiding behind Fischer the entire time while they were fleeing,’ he said. Joubert and two other farmers were forced to stop shooting when they saw that the black men were using the old Afrikaner as a human shield, dragging him along. “They dumped him a long distance from the homestead and fled on foot,’ said Joubert.
The sixty-member Farm Watch group launched an immediate search, following the trail of the attackers. One farmer of Bethal located one of the armed black men in the veldt and the man fired shots towards him – at which point the unnamed farmer shot hm in the chest with his .303 hunting rifle. This farm-attacker now is treated at Bethal hospital under police guard, writes Pelser. The firearm police confiscated from him had been stolen during a house-robbery earlier in Witbank. ANC and its youth league to start militia training for party-members at Naval Academy
Afriforum demands explanation of 'militia training' for party-member cadres:
The civil rights initiative AfriForum has given the Minister of Defence, Minister Lindiwe Sisulu till 17:00 today (1 September 2010) to answer certain questions about military training for ANCYL and YCL members, due to start soon at the naval training base in Saldanha, Western Cape.
AfriForum is concerned that the proposed military training for "nominees of political parties" contravenes Section 199(7)(b) of the Constitution, which states that "neither the security forces, nor their members shall further any interest of a political party".
Minister Sisulu and representatives of the ANCYL and the YCL announced plans to hold military training camps for youth members in May 2010, shortly after a controversial courtesy visit by ANCYL President Julius Malema to Zimbabwe in April 2010.
“After a public outcry, the minister issued a statement saying that the training camps were open to all political parties, but representatives of the three main opposition parties already confirmed to AfriForum that their parties’ youth structures have not received any formal invitation from the Defence Department”, said Willie Spies, attorney of AfriForum, in a statement today.
“It is critical that we should not repeat the mistakes of our northern neighbours in South Africa. There was good reason for the drafters of the Constitution to specifically prohibit political partisanship in the National Defence Force. In Zimbabwe, youth members of Zanu-PF trained in militia camps established by the Zimbabwean army became a feared force of violence and intimidation during election times.
"We should avoid such a situation to develop in South Africa at all costs”, Spies said.
If no response is received from the Minister’s office, AfriForum will issue court papers for the judicial review of the Minister’s plans tomorrow.

Vyf rowers en ’n vragmotorbestuurder is gister doodgeskiet in ’n waaghalsige vlaag van misdade wat oor sowat 75 km tussen Kinross in Mpumalanga en Springs gestrek het.
’n Bende swaar gewapende rowers het vroegoggend eers die inwoners van drie huise in Kinross aangehou en beroof voordat hulle twee mense met messe aangeval en met duisende rande en besittings in vier wegkommotors gevlug het.
Volgens lt.kol. Eugene Opperman, Gautengse polisiewoordvoerder, het die rowers in Devon se rigting gevlug en glo verdwaal. Hulle het verby die Devon-polisiekantoor gery terwyl beamptes juis besig was om uit te jaag om na hulle te soek.
Dít nadat ’n jong seun glo tydens een van die rooftogte uit sy huis ontsnap en die polisie ontbied het.
“Die rowers het op die polisie losgebrand. Niemand is beseer nie en die beamptes het hulle agternagesit.”
Op die R29-pad (Ermeloweg) net buite Devon het die polisie op een van die wegkommotors, ’n minibus, losgebrand om dit tot stilstand te bring. Die rowers het toe probeer om ’n vragmotor te kaap en die bestuurder daarvan doodgeskiet.
Toe het hulle ’n rooi Mazda gekaap. In die daaropvolgende skietgeveg is drie rowers doodgeskiet, terwyl die res in die rigting van Springs gejaag het.
Springs-polisiebeamptes en Ekurhuleni-metropolisielede het egter van daar af op die rowers afgejaag en die boewe net buite die dorp aangekeer.
“’n Massiewe skietgeveg het uitgebreek en die Mazda is van die pad gestamp,” het Opperman gesê. Die rower wat die Mazda bestuur het, is dood toe die motor gerol het en nog een is doodgeskiet. Twee polisiebeamptes is in die ongeluk beseer.
Opperman het bevestig vier rowers is gearresteer – drie by Devon en een by Springs. Sewe vuurwapens, waaronder ’n R5-aanvalsgeweer, verskeie van die besittings en die vier wegkommotors (’n BMW, Toyota Condor, bakkie en minibus), is teruggevind.
Die polisiehelikopter is later ontbied om na minstens een rower wat gevlug het en duisende rande wat glo gebuit is, te soek.
Mev. Feroza Ismail het geskok vertel sy, haar vyf kinders, twee huiswerkers en veiligheidswag is in hul huis in Gardinastraat in Kinross oorval en beroof.
“Hulle het ’n foto van my man, Faizel, wat by die werk was, aan my dogter gewys en gesê hulle soek hom.”

Dit was die derde keer in sewe jaar dat Dorey in haar huis op haar Hilltop-kleinhoewe aangeval is.
Die moordenaars het Dorey skynbaar Donderdagaand vroeg in die verwaarloosde huis oorval.
Hulle het ’n ruit by die voorstoep gebreek en toe heeltemal uit die vensterraam gehaal om by die huis in te kom.
’n Werker het omstreeks 07:00 by die huis opgedaag en onraad vermoed toe hy die gebreekte ruit sien.
Hy het hulp by die bure sowat 300 m daarvandaan gaan soek.
Hulle het haar lyk in die huis se gang gekry.

Drie skiet man tuis dood
Kaapstad – ‘n Man is Maandagaand in Kaapstad dood nadat hy vermoedelik menigte kere deur drie gewapende mans by sy huis geskiet is.
Volgens kapt. Rewayne Muller het polisie rondom 21:50 by die 44-jarige man se huis in Tafelsig opgedaag en sy lyk met menigte koeëlwonde gevind.
“Daar word vermoed dat drie gewapende mans die huis binnegegaan het en dat ‘n argument tussen hulle en die man uitgebreek het. Hy is toe doodgeskiet,” het Muller gesê.
Dit is nie duidelik wat die rede vir die argument was nie en die drie mans het van die toneel gevlug.
‘n Saak van moord word ondersoek.

Man shot in suspected hijacking
- A man was shot dead in a suspected hijacking in Pretoria on Wednesday, Gauteng paramedics said.
"Paramedics were called to a scene in Vergeet My Nie Road, in Elandspoort, for a man that had been shot in a suspected hijacking," ER24 spokesperson Tristan Wadely said.
"When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the man lying in the road, he had sustained a gunshot wound and was in a critical condition."
Paramedics tried to save the man, but to no avail. He died at the scene.
Police were not immediately available for comment.
