Marius Scholtz, 42, owner/editor of Highveld Tribune, survives shooting by 3 black males while camping on fundraising walk for flood victims

Feb 14 2012 Tuesday 9pm Nelspruit, Three black males attacked, shot and injured Marius Scholtz,42, the owner/co-editor of the Highveld Tribune community newspaper. He was on a fundraising-walk to raise support money for the victims of the recent devastating flood which destroyed so many homes in this area last week. Mr Scholtz left for his walk on Monday-morning. Journalist Adele Smit of the Highveld Tribune writes that he left alone on Monday-morning 13 February from Ermelo to walk 360km to Hoedspruit. "He decided to launch this adventure to raise funds for the flood-victims. Between 9pm and 10pm he was making food when three unknown black males approached him, overwhelmed him, took away his gun, and shot him in the rightfoot and lower-leg and left hand. The suspects then ran away without taking anything else. He phoned his wife Corné who alerted the Chrissiesmeer SAPS and the Life Care Response Ambulance Service.
