Vermeulen couple under fire in Midrand home by gang with Uzi who followed husband home from cash-machine...
2010-11-01 André Damons, Beeld Johannesburg – Midrand resident Jean Vermeulen opened fire on robbers through a closed window, shortly after her husband was robbed of a large amount of money by a three-man gang armed with amongst others, an Uzi submachine gun. Mrs Vermeulen’s husband André, was apparently followed home from a cash-machine in Centurion. The Afrikaans construction-company owner had just drawn his workers’ payroll from the machine. SAPS spokesman Mmakgomo Semono claimed that the gunmen had ‘followed Vermeulen to his house in Glen Austin, Midrand, at about 14:00. One of the robbers held the electronic gate open to let the others in.” He did not cite any sources for this claim.
While Vermeulen was being held by the robbers, wife Jean (n another part of the house) saw what was happening and fetched a pistol. She opened fire on them. The men returned fire and nearly emptied the Uzi’s magazine.
Semono said “no-one was injured during the shoot-out. No-one has been arrested of course. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Robbers-let-rip-at-woman-with-Uzi-20101101
