26 Oct 2010 – KRUGERSDORP - Two allegedly corrupt police officers, a (unnamed) Krugersdorp SAPS warrant officer (41) and a reservist constable (36), were arrested at their station today for corruption. They were detained at the Johannesburg Central Police cells and appeared on Thursday at the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court.
Allegedly the two officers stopped a member of the public and threatened him with arrest as ‘they suspected him to be under the influence of liquor’. They then demanded money and took the victim to an ATM where he drew some money. He handed it to the officers. Immediately thereafter, the victim reported the incident to a member of the Community Policing Forum. He confronted the officers and they handed the money back to him. The CPF member reported the incident and investigation led to the arrest of the officers. They are being charged with corruption, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice when they appear in court. It’s not known whether they were suspended from their jobs on unpaid leave until the case has been resolved. Contact LtCol L.D..
