Couple killed on wife's birthday
Ema Buffel
Kleinmond - The bodies of an elderly couple were found - each with numerous stab wounds - in their home on Monday morning, the day after the woman had celebrated her 73rd birthday.
Robbery seems to be the motive for the murders of Schalk van der Westhuizen, 78, a wooden-toy maker, and his wife Marie, who made baked goods for a home industry store.
Several of their belongings, including a laptop, two cellphones and a video machine, are missing.
It is suspected that the couple were attacked on the night of Maria's birthday.
Her birthday cake and some tea cups were still standing in the kitchen when a neighbour found their bodies in their 9th Avenue home at about 09:00.
Body covered by blanket
The couple's faces and bodies had been repeatedly stabbed with a sharp object. The lights and the television were still on.
Schalk's body was found in the pantry and his wife's in the lounge, covered by a blanket.
The neighbour, George Sutter, went to investigate when the couple did not respond to their daughter's phone calls.
"The house was plundered and various household appliances were stolen," said provincial police spokesperson Superintendent André Traut.
The sliding door at the back of the house was open.
"No one has been arrested yet. We suspect the attack took place on Sunday night because Marie was last seen at about 17:30."
Charming couple
Neighbours told on Monday how charming the couple were. One mentioned how the wife took snacks to her children every week. "They were lovely people. That they had to spend their last hour like this."
Sutter's wife Sonja said the couple had first lived in Kus Road but had moved to their current address a few years ago. "They had an alarm and security gates. They were well-known, dear old people who were involved in their community."
They are survived by four children, Herman van der Westhuizen, 53, from Namibia, Amanda Ellis, 49, of Somerset West, Maryna van der Westhuizen, 48, of Durbanville and Elsabe Strauss of Namibia, 43.

Man's throat slit in 'hit'
Durban - An intruder slit the throat of a 56-year-old businessman in Durban's Morningside area and stabbed his girlfriend in the head on Wednesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the Johannesburg-born man and his 34-year-old partner were asleep in their flat on Bridge View Avenue when the intruder entered at about 02:00.
"A neighbour was awoken by the woman's screams and spotted a man leaving the flat through a window and contacted the police."
Police arrived at the scene and found the couple lying in a pool of blood.
The man - who owns a business in Richards Bay - was declared dead at the scene while his girlfriend was rushed to a local hospital in a critical but stable condition.
"It seemed like nothing was stolen as a laptop and cellphone were found lying on the floor," Mngomezulu said.
Although robbery had been ruled out, police were unable to confirm if it was a hit. Police were investigating how the suspect gained entry into the flats.
"We noted that the block of flats has a high-fenced wall with razor wire at the top. It is believed that the suspect might have had a duplicate key as the gates are electronic."
Police were unable to release the name of the flats or the names of the victims.
Murder and attempted murder cases were being investigated. No arrests had been made yet.

Woman's throat slit in nature reserve
Stephanie Saville and Bongani Hans, The Witness
Pietermaritzburg - A woman was killed and her policeman husband stabbed at their home at Msinsi Game Reserve, Albert Falls Dam, in the early hours of Saturday.
Erica Croeser, 32, had her throat slit with a knife that was also used to stab her 34-year-old husband, Constable Morné Croeser of the SAPS dog unit, in the stomach.
When paramedics arrived they found the knife still lodged in his stomach.
The scene was described as “very, very gory”.
Police believe the murder was related to a labour dispute.
Erica had been working at Albert Falls as a tourism assistant for 10 years.
It is believed that the couple had just arrived home when they were attacked.
A source said that while Morné parked the car, Erica went to open the front door of their house. Two intruders, who were waiting behind the door, pounced on her.
The couple’s two young daughters, aged 6 and 10, were staying with their grandmother.
Gunshot
Distraught neighbour Hlekisile Nkala told The Witness that she heard a gunshot just after 02:00, and about 10 minutes later she heard a male voice screaming for help. She quickly woke her husband and called the police.
An employee at the reserve said the incident shocked the more than 300 participants staying there for the annual bass fishing tournament, which started on Friday.
“The customers have also expressed shock and fear over the gruesome murder. They keep asking if the murder really happened and if it was that gruesome,” said an employee.
“Since the incident we have increased the number of security guards from two to four. We are also looking at more ways of increasing the security,” said Msinsi Holdings marketing manager Ray Naguran.
Knife still in abdomen
Police spokesperson Joey Jeevan said Morné Croeser was in a serious but stable condition in hospital on Sunday.
She said when paramedics arrived at the scene with police, the knife used to stab him was still lodged in his abdomen.
“Paramedics removed the knife and put up a drip and treated him before he was taken to hospital.”
Jeevan said no arrests had been made, adding that it seemed nothing had been stolen.
“At this stage police believe that this is linked to a labour dispute. She was a supervisor, and responsible for hiring and firing.
Croeser’s mother Francoisana Schafer said the family are coping with “the sad story”, but declined to comment further.

Oud-politikus, vrou aangeval
Jana van der Merwe en Lynda Greyling
BETHLEHEM.
Haar neus is gebreek.
Mnr.
Sy been is erg beseer.
Sers.

Malema wil grond onteien

Smit Gert and Annette, attacked, Nigel
Gert and Annette Smit of Nigel were attacked ten days after the murder on Eugene Terre'Blanche by a black man who had worked for them for six months. On the day of the attack this black man arrived at their smallholding dressed in an APLA uniform and shot Gert. He then walked to the kitchen where Annette was helping the black man's child, which had fallen ill. He ordered her to give his child to the couple's maid. Their maid pleaded with the APLA-member to please not shoot Annette Smit, because she was 'a good miesies'.They then tied up Mrs Smit while he beat her up. The maid softly told her not to struggle but to lie still. The APLA-member said he was looking for the keys to the safe but she didn't know where it was. He then produced an angle-grinder which he had apparently brought with him to cut open the safe and ran away with the couple's weapons and their bakkie - which was later found abandoned alongside the road. This was not reported in the mainstream news media. The sources are verified and accurate however.
Parkinson, Joline, Pregnant woman punched and kicked by black gang N3 highway Pinetown
A pregnant woman was attacked by four men while waiting for assistance after her car broke down on the N3, near the Pavilion, on Friday.
Jolene Parkinson, 20, of Pinetown, said she had been waiting in her car for her father to assist her when four men attacked her at about midday. She is five months pregnant.
"They did not talk to me, they just got into the car and started hitting me. They kicked me, punched me in the stomach and took my cellphone, my handbag and money.
"When they saw other vehicles arriving, they screamed at each other and then ran away. About five minutes later my father arrived," she said.
Police spokesperson Vincent Mdunge said the N3 was usually busy and that incidents like this were uncommon on the road.
"Women who are alone after breaking down are easy targets. She had been on the road for one and half hours and this was probably an opportunistic act from her attackers."
Parkinson said her shoulder had been dislocated during the attack, but her unborn baby was fine.
"I don't want to let it affect me, I just want to forget about it and move on," she said.
Mdunge said women who landed up in the same situation should not hesitate to contact the police if they were alone.
"For women who are stuck anywhere, it is wise to contact the SAPS or metro police to be accompanied while waiting for breakdown services to arrive. It will not be seen as an abnormality for police to accompany motorists who break down." http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=13&art_id=vn20100823054023175C954576

The SAOI members by 87% of the SMS-votes rejected the government offer of a 7% increase and R700 a month housing allowance.
Plea from hospital nurse: If you have any loved ones in the hospitals please help provide them normal things such as drinking water etc because those workers who are still working do not get relieved from their work they WANT to work but now are locked inside by the strikers. Striking teachers run into fists of angry parents
Why are South Africa’s public servants waging civil war against primary school children and newborn babies?
For the past few months, members of Censorbugbear-Reports have been identifying black Facebook members who were spouting hatespeech including the truly shocking call to 'kill all the white babies" in South Africa. With the current events, it's pretty clear that that's exactly what they are now doing: attacking even the smallest Afrikaans children inside their classrooms - and also deliberately causing the deaths of newborns in hospitals by denying them access to medical-care givers:

Willie Rademeyer, Tanja Janse van Vuuren survive shooting, Willow Park Manor, Pretoria – nothing robbed
10-08-17 Virginia Keppler, Beeld Pretoria – A woman who lives in a security complex in Willow Park Manor in the east of Pretoria is in critical condition and her friend in a serious condition after attackers shot them in their home.
“I want you to send a message to those bastards.“Come and try it again. You (attacker) won’t manage it a second time,” Willie Rademeyer, 51, said about the attack on Sunday night on him and his friend, Tanja Janse van Vuuren, 45.
They are both receiving treatment in the Wilgers hospital in Pretoria. Rademeyer was hit in the chest and Janse van Vuuren was shot in the right hand, and the same bullet entered her abdomen. “She tried to stave off the attack with her hand when she was shot,” said Rademeyer.
•According to him, she was still in a critical condition on Monday afternoon in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Rademeyer said he and Janse van Vuuren were sitting in front of the TV in their house at about 21:15 when she stood up to call her cat in from outside.“She suddenly shouted: ‘Willie!’” “I jumped up but I heard them shoot her while I was still running towards her. “One of them then came running toward me and shot me in the chest. I fell and saw him walking over to me. I thought he was going to finish me off,” Rademeyer said. He said when the shooter was about 3m away from him, he jumped up and tried to wrestle the pistol from his hand. “We wrestled and then they ran away.“I grabbed a small ashtray that was on the table outside and threw it at the shooter. They fled without taking anything.” Rademeyer says the police were at the scene within three minutes, followed by the ambulance. vkeppler@beeld.com http://www.beeld.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Boewe-julle-kry-nie-n-2de-kans-nie-20100816

Woman, 30, assaulted on lunch break, skull fractured, McGregor Street, Bloemfontein
ER24 reports on Aug 17 2010 that a thirty year old woman was leaving for her lunch break from her place of work in McGregor street, Bloemfontein, when she was assaulted. ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by her colleagues when they saw her walking back to the office and she seemed to be staggering. They then noted that she had collapsed as she had entered the gate of the premises.
When paramedics arrived on the scene, the woman was in a great deal of pain, but she was fully alert and remembered what had happened. She explained that she was going to get lunch when she was approached by an unknown suspect who allegedly assaulted her with a blunt object to the head. Upon assessment, paramedics found that she had a fracture of her skull, and they bandaged the wound, stopped the bleeding and loaded her onto specialised equipment into the ambulance. She was then transported to a nearby hospital where she will receive further assessment and treatment for her injuries. No other people seemed to have been involved in this incident, and it is still unclear as to whether the lady had any of her personal belongings taken from her during the alleged assault. The city police were on scene to take statements for investigation. Posted by Vanessa Jackson at 9:35 AM http://er24media.blogspot.com/2010/08/woman-allegedly-assaulted-on-her-lunch.html

Swart aanvallers slaan man met panga dood

S.African orphan, 12, fights like a tigress against vicious attack gang
The aggressive gang subjected the family to a rape and torture-ordeal lasting hours… yet they only looted R1,000 in cash and some cheap cellphones…
---------------------------
WELKOM. DOORN SMALLHOLDINGS –August 7 2010 - ’A twelve-year-old orphan girl who lives with her grandparents inside their homestead/tuck shop, fought like a tigress against an attack gang on Thursday night – and undoubtedly saved their lives, reports Volksblad journalist Tom de Wet.
The family name is not published to protect the identity of the aunt, who was gang-raped by the attackers. The SAPS and emergency services initially reported that the child had also been raped – however instead she was drugged by the gang after she had put up such a fierce fight.
The girl, her brother, 4 and sister, 2, are now in a place of safety where they are being treated for trauma and her grandparents are in hospital with multiple injuries caused by beatings and panga-attacks. Police have confiscated a powdery substance used to drug the child with.
The family’s hours of hell started on Thursday-evening when at least three men, armed with a firearm, a panga and metal pipes, broke into the family’s grocery shop, which is inside their house. The grandparents pleaded with the attackers to not injure them and the children – but the grandfather was tied up and brutally assaulted, and the grandmother pistol-whipped: SAPS spokesman Capt Stephen Thakeng said that while the attackers were inside the house the aunt, 25, and her friend had arrived from North West and ran right into the gang – the male friend was attacked with a panga and the aunt was forced into a room where she was gang-raped. The girl flew into a rage and assaulted the rapists, trying to drag them off the woman. She was side-handed and also was cut on a hand – but she kept on assaulting the men. The girl fought like a tigress to save her family: dragging her grandfather where he lay in a puddle of blood after he was hacked with a panga – covering up the injured old man with a blanket before she grabbed a kitchen-knife and storming towards the attackers again.
SAPS spokesman Capt Stephen Thakeng, said the gang’s loot – after all this trouble and inflicting so much pain and trauma on the family – was a mere R1,000 (about $80 US) in cash, some cellphones and the grandparent’s older-model car – which wasn’t ‘robbed’ but merely ‘borrowed’ as it was later found abandoned alongside a school in Thabong township by SAPS warrant-officer David Scott from the Free State’s K9 squad. The SAPS may be contacted about this matter via Capt Elmarie van der Merwe at 082-301-3075.

Aug 6 2010 – Mrs Chrissie Harmzen, 70, murdered Burgersfort, Mpumalanga – battered to death for a cellphone and a bunch of keys…
Mrs Chrissie Harmzen, 70, died of her injuries at Midmed Hospital in Middelburg a day after the unarmed grandmother – a small woman disabled by rheumatoid arthritis -- was viciously attacked while stepping outside her Burgersfort home on Friday-morning to catch a bit of sunshine..
She had just finished speaking to her daughter-in-law Lena by phone, telling her that she was ‘cold and was going outside to warm up a bit in the sunshine’. As Mra Harmzen stepped outside with her five Jack Russell dogs, she was attacked. The frail old Afrikaans lady was viciously assaulted with the assailants bashing away at her face and chest chest – even so, she still managed to push an emergency button before the attackers fled with her cellphone and a bunch of ouse keys. This remains a mystery: It’s really not clear why anybody would want to steal housekeys but they are often stolen during such attacks..Her husband Jan is heartbroken. Their daughter Mrs Marlene Fick said her parents ‘just lived only for one another, they were close partners for life’. When Lena phoned the old lady, an unknown man had answered her cellphone instead. “I couldn’t make out what he said. So I phoned him back and he said he was Lucas.’ I then called my dad who confirmed that my mom had just been attacked. I called her stolen phone again and told the man who answered it that he was a coward. Why didn’t he just take her phone? My mother is a tiny woman who was bent over from rheumatoid arthritis. They could just have taken the phone. It wasn’t necessary to assault her so viciously.’ Her traumatised widower said the murder-attack was motivated ‘not by hunger, but by pure evil anger’. Mrs Harmzen is survived by Jan, their three children and seven grandchildren. .http://www.rapport.co.za/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Ouma-sterf-na-wrede-aanval-helder-oordag-20100807

2010-08-07 Unarmed Louis Rothschild, father of one-year-old boy, murdered, Blairgowrie, Randburg
7 Aug 2010 BLAIRGOWRIE, RANDBURG. Four black gunmen murdered an Jewish-English-speaking South African businessman, Mr.Louis Rothschild in his Blairgowrie, Randburg home at suppertime on Saturday-evening. http://www.nuus24.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Inbrekers-skiet-man-in-huis-dood-
The armed black gunmen attacked the young family inside their home while they were having supper and immediately started shooting.
SAPS spokeswoman Cynthia Mogoai however, blamed the victim: she said he ‘was shot when he tried to push the panic button. They shot him in the upper body and he died on the scene”.
The four blacks then strolled out again, only taking along Rotshchild’s wallet and a cellphone, leaving other easy-to-steal valuables behind. His cousin Lance said the family was shocked and devastated. ”He was the most awesome young man. It is senseless and it is theft of life. There was no need to kill him. The people who do this take away so much more. A father of a one-year-old boy shot for nothing,” http://bit.ly/91Iu0X and http://www.nuus24.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Inbrekers-skiet-man-in-huis-dood-

Polisie betrokke by veediefstal
Vorster family survives attack by four gunmen, Roodepoort
Somewhere in South Africa, a young black man is trying to get the blade of a steak knife removed from his skull…
Nineteen year old Ruan Vorster was forced to defend his attacked father Phillip, 49 -- a mechanical engineer who is a member of the Roodekrans- neighbourhood watch - by stabbing one attacker with a steakknife into his skull.
The blade broke off inside the attacker's head - and the injured man has fled with three other men in a white Mercedes Benz. Nothing was robbed in the bizarre armed attack against the Afrikaner family. In a rather confusing story in Beeld newspaper on August 5 2010, the events apparently were as follows: Vorster senior was waiting inside his house for a man who was known to him to show up for an appointment at around 8pm in their house in Palala Street.
Either the father or the son, then had stepped outside to fetch something from the family car - and upon his return to the house was attacked in the hallway by three armed black men.
The other son Hein, 17 and Ruan saw their father being beaten over the head with flashlights and guns. Ruan grabbed a steakknife and attacked one of the black men who was assaulting his father, storming the man, hitting him with an elbow and pushing him against a wall. The man defended himself and Ruan stabbed him into the top of his skull. The stabbed attacker then fell to the ground while the other two black men were still beating up on Mr Vorster senior. Meanwhile Hein had rushed to the telephone and spoke to his friend Joubert Schoeman. 'O foei... come and help' he shouted over the phone.
The Vorster youths then heard a shot - and learned that the shot had barely missed their father's stomach and had gone through an upper leg. Meanwhile, the friend Joubert Schoeman and his father Dirk had rushed to the Vorster home after alerting the police. Ruan said he was convinced that his father was dead when he heard that shot. The police arrived within minutes - but ALL THREE black attackers had by then fled in a white BMW, driven by a man who had been waiting outside inside the car. Nothing was robbed. http://www.beeld.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Seun-steek-pa-se-aanvaller-met-steakmes-in-kop-20100804

Daffeu, Koos, 46, 2010-08-03, farmer/contractor at Medupi electricity plant, executed in ambush, farm Lith, outside Ellisras.
A Solidarity trade union spokesman and the SAPS have both confirmed Koos Daffeu, 46, an Ellisras farmer, building contractor, and Solidarity trade unionist, was shot dead execution style in an ambush, about 5km outside Ellisras. He was enroute to work in the morning when he was ambushed by a group of attackers who fired on the unarmed man and wounded him. The injured Afrikaner farmer chased away in his vehicle but crashed it 500 meters down the road. His attackers had followed him - and executed him. Initial reports do not indicate whether anything was “robbed’ and police said there was ‘no known motive’. Sapa also confirmed that the Ellisras/Lephalale farmer was killed in an ambush: reporting that the 46-year-old farmer wasenroute to his farm Lith at 5:45am Tuesday morning, quoting Limpopo police Lt.Col. Ronel Otto. "Preliminary investigations indicate that he was ambushed at a low water bridge on a dirt road. Several shots were fired at his vehicle from unknown suspects who were standing next to the road. Daffeu kept on driving but his vehicle overturned near a T-junction approximately 600m from the bridge," said Otto. Police believe that Daffeu was shot another five times after his vehicle overturned. He was found dead on the scene with bullet wounds to his upperbody. Five spent cartridges from a 9mm pistol were found on the scene. Additional spent cartridges were found near the bridge, where the first shooting happened. "The suspects are not known, but tracks on both crime scenes indicate that more than one suspect could be involved. It is believed that the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle," said Otto.

Solidarity spokesman Jaco Kleynhans calls for the urgent reinstatement of the specialist SAPS crime-fighting units: pointing out that since 2003, the SAPS has appointed more than 83,000 new police officers yet ‘the serious crimes have only been reduced by a mere 645 murders between 2004 and 2009. It is clear that the SAPS is not able to use its police force effectively to fight crime with. They abolish their specialist-units while overseas policing forces expand and strengthen theirs. The results are clear: In South Africa, the average daily murder rate lies between 30 to 40 people per 100,000 of the population – the international norm is 5 : 100,000.”

Barries Fourie attacked by Park Road SAPS, Bloemfontein: he tried to hand over a suspected drug-deal with the drugs…
2010-08-02 01:20 BLOEMFONTEIN - Pieter Steyn reports in Volksblad that Mr Barries Fourie, 35, of Bloemfontein, was allegedly assaulted by the SAPS at the Park Road station after he had tried to hand over a drug-dealer together with his drugs and wanted to make a statement. Fourie had brought the man to the police-station in his bakkie, and the man sat outside in the vehicle while Fourie went inside to lodge his formal complaint. However, the SAPS refused to cooperate, said Fourie, refusing to take his statement, refusing to speak to the drug-dealer, and then a sergeant had cursed him, sprayed him with pepper-spray, and beat him up in the presence of the accused drug-dealer. Then the suspected drug-dealer disappeared. Fourie said the pepper-spray had blinded him temporarily and he called his uncle, Jan Fourie, to come and help him – and then he phoned Volksblad to tell them of the incident. Only after the journalist showed up, were the police willing to take Fourie’s statement – but by that time, the drug-dealer was of course long gone, although the drugs he’d tried to peddle to Fourie, were at the police station. SAPS Lt Col Annelie Wrensch claimed that ‘Fourie initially was violent and aggressive and refused to speak to anyone in a police uniform.’ She admitted however that a complaint of assault was being investigated against a specific police member and that ‘action would be taken if any wrongdoing could be proven’ .http://www.volksblad.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Man-glo-aangerand-toe-hy-dwelms-aan-polisie-wou-gee-20100802

Peripoli, Giovanni 74, retired miner, dead: stomach sliced open, Virginia, Free State knife attack – nothing stolen
2010-08-02 Tom de Wet writes in Volksblad from Virginia, Free State. – “Please bring me a pillow, the ground is very hard,” were the last words 74-year-old Giovanni Peripoli whispered to his wife Lina where he lay with a gaping wound, his intestines spilling out on the paving in the back yard of his house. He had just returned from the bank. Peripoli who ives at 55 Virginia Road, was attacked on Saturday in broad daylight in this busy street by an unknown young man wielding a brand-new butcher’s knife. The cardboard box in which the knife had been bought was also found on the crime scene. Peripoli was stabbed three times in the stomach, and the knife was twisted with each stab. According to paramedics at the scene it looking like his entire stomach had been sliced open from side to side. Mrs Lina Peripoli, told Volksblad shortly after the murder that she had been busy in the kitchen when her husband returned from home at about 10:30. He had been to the bank, among other things. “I went to the back yard after I heard him call my name a few times. I found him lying on the pavement in a huge pool of blood. “I tried to help him, but I had to run into the house to call an ambulance and the police. His last words were when he asked me for a pillow – the ground was very hard and cold.”She demonstrated to Volksblad how the knife must have been stabbed and twisted, according to all indications, in her husband’s stomach each time. Peripoli was stabilised at the scene by Netcare 911 paramedics before being taken to the Oppenheimer hospital in Welkom, where he later died. SAPS spokesman Malebo Khosana quoted witnesses as saying that a young man had jumped over the gate after Peripoli arrived at home (from the bank) and closed the gate behind his car. After gutting the old man with the butcher’s knife, the young black man jumped back over the fence again and jumped into a car – presumably a black Chevrolet – which was waiting around the corner and fled the scene. Nothing was stolen. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Mans-stomach-sliced-open-20100801
